The purpose of this roundtable, which gathers leading expert of AI, is to discuss the major results of the IAA+SOC initiative launched in 2019 by the Japan Science Technology Agendy and the Fondation France Japon. These results, which will be the object of a book can be summarized as follows. First, there are major differences but also commonalities in the Japanese and European approach of AI. In recognizing them, it is possible to develop a fruitful collaboration between computer scientists, data scientists and social scientists from Japan and France. Second, a major area of collaboration lies in the study of the impact of AI in various aspects of the organization of our societies, at the legal, cultural, economic, and social levels. Third, in order to mitigate the negative effects of AI and promote further its positive impacts, it is important to develop some tools in education, law, international governance through the mobilization of a large set of  stakeholders.
