Hello and welcome to Megaphone!
We are happy to hear that you are interested in joining the platform! Below you will find a recap of our rules and values.
Please read these carefully before moving on to the survey.
Goals and values
Megaphone was created to unite people and groups in and around Luxembourg who are queerfeminist, intersectional, anti-racist, decolonial, climate conscious, anti-ableist, anti-fascist and anti-capitalist. Our political convictions are at the core of our practice: ultimately, we want to end the patriarchy, white supremacy, and all forms of structural oppression and violence - and sometimes, maybe, if possible, also have some fun together.
The platform aims to reclaim inaccessible and oppressive spaces in Luxembourg, not to keep them for ourselves but to open them up for everyone. By being accessible, inclusive and safe, we want to combat the isolation of marginalized idividuals and their struggles and encourage connections between existing organisations and communities, to create new alliances and networks of care and support.
We want to offer an alternative to institutions, political parties, pinkwashing and for-profit organizations and those that are funded by private companies. A grassroots, community-based approach centered on common ground, solidarity and mutual aid is at the heart of our philosophy. This includes an awareness of and critical view on relations of power, dominance and oppression - and how power is abused not just to harm human beings, but also animals and all of nature.
Collective responsibility means we take care of ourselves and each other. Collective action means that we are strongest when we stand up for each other and stand together.
Anti-Discrimination Principles
Megaphone has committed itself to creating a safe(r) space that is free from all forms of discrimination, including but not limited to gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background.
Any and all voices are equal to another in making decisions and no one's experiences should be invalidated.
Inclusive Language
We use language that is inclusive and affirming, recognizing and respecting diverse gender identities and expressions.
This includes using everyone's chosen pronouns and refraining from using derogatory and misogynistic expressions.
Consent and Boundaries
Respecting personal boundaries and obtaining consent before discussing personal or sensitive topics is fundamental to creating a safe and supportive environment.
This could be achieved by giving trigger warnings or content notes when a potentially sensitive topic is coming up so that affected people may have the chance to remove themselves temporarily or prepare themselves mentally.
Of course this also includes physical contact, always ask for permission to touch another, only yes means yes!
Respectful Communication
Apart from using inclusive language to converse with another, there should be guidelines in meetings and discussions that encourage actively listening to whoever is presenting and using plenum signs to signify the order of talking so that no one shall be interrupted. This ensures that all voices are heard and respected.
This survey is in part a safety mechanism, but mostly just a way for us to get to know you a bit before you join! So don't worry too much about making it perfect, 3-4 short sentences per question are enough.
